Away on paternity leave
I’m out of office on paternity leave until December 9th. I’ll check my emails and messages sporadically, but I may not get back to you until I return.
Current availability
I’m afraid I’m completely booked up at the moment and at this point, I estimate the wait is around 6 months, though it depends entirely on when current patients are ready to be discharged.
If you’re already on my waitlist, bear in mind that I can’t predict exactly when sessions will open up and it may be longer or shorter than the estimated wait time I’ve given you.
Dr. Daniel Moerken
Counselling & Psychotherapy
Helping people uncover, unravel and untangle the things that keep them trapped, stuck or distressed.
I’m a counselling psychologist, which means I’m a specialist in providing different forms of psychotherapy and counselling. I’ve spent 8 years in training, and I’ve been in practice in Norway, the UK, and in NZ.
As a psychologist, I’m trained and proficient in several different types of psychotherapy, and will tailor my approach to my clients’ needs and preferences. All the models of therapy I use in my practice are based on up-to-date research, and their effectiveness has been robustly evidenced.
I am, more than anything, passionate about helping people find freedom, get unstuck and live more fulfilling lives.

COVID-19
According to the COVID-19 guidelines, I can conduct face-to-face sessions and we are not required to wear masks during sessions. Please let me know, however, if you’d rather we wear facemasks and I’d be more than happy to do so.
To reduce any transmission of illness I have organised seating in my consulting room to ensure we are 2 meters apart (which coincidentally makes the room feel suitably full).
If you’d prefer to have a remote session we can do this via video call (Zoom) or over the phone. Click here for more information.
If you’re feeling unwell with any COVID, cold or flu symptoms, please let me know and we can carry out the session remotely, either via video-call (Zoom) or phone, or we can reschedule.
ACC counselling
I am registered with ACC to provide treatment (counselling and psychotherapy) and assessments for sensitive claims. That means that if you have experienced any sort of sexual trauma or abuse in your life (in NZ), ACC will cover all costs for your sessions with me. To find out more about counselling through ACC, click here.
Sessions via video link
If you’re unable to attend sessions in person, I’m happy to offer sessions via video link (Zoom). I often do this when clients are travelling or ill, but still want to have a session, or for people who live outside of Hawke’s Bay or New Zealand.
During COVID-19 lockdown (Alert level 3 & 4), I do all my sessions via video link. Click here for more info about how I operate during COVID-19.
I’m afraid I can’t provide crisis or emergency service.
